Manchester

Enthusiasm began working in Manchester in August 2011 after a 12 month consultation where we identified an unmet need.

Enthusiasm was officially launched in Manchester in April 2012 by the then Lord Mayor of Manchester, Harry Lyons. We are based at The Manchester Creative Media Academy and they have supported us by allowing us to use their premises.

We began by targeting the Miners Estate in Moston and have since extended this to include Blackley and parts of North Manchester.

We run an ‘All girls’ programme based in the heart of Moston which is an innovative activities led opportunity for girls aged 13 to 16. We also run sporting programmes in community spaces and schools which includes American football, basketball and football. We offer youth clubs to provide a safe and fun place for young people to meet and our outreach programmes take youth work to young people in targeted hotspot areas.

We also offer mentoring support to young people at risk of committing crime, exclusion from school or who have a number of risk factors. Many of our referrals come from North Manchester and we are always looking for funding to support those young people most in need. We work in partnership with schools, parents, community groups, agencies, housing associations and statutory bodies such as the Family Intervention Project.

We encourage people to become volunteers and get involved in their local community. Our volunteers add much value to the work we do. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the volunteering pages on our website for more information and an application form.

Arrows is our inspirational programme that focuses on building capacity in the heart of the community by finding, training and inspiring community champions. We secured funding to run a programme in Manchester to identify and train community champions which has been very successful and has empowered local communities in the North.
