What people are saying about us

“We run a referral service to anyone who is involved, or vulnerable to becoming involved in Gangs. Risk assessments are done on those referrals with information and intelligence gained from all the above sources as well as Enthusiasm, who are key to providing this information and are included in our information sharing agreement. We are aware some young people won’t engage directly with the Police, but having the opportunity to engage with a 3rd sector organisation which they can trust is vital and has proved invaluable. The offending, both minor and serious, between the Gangs in Derby has decreased steadily since the joined up work across the city started in early 2009. The last 12 months have been by far the best in terms of both the reduction of offences between or involving Gang members and the reduction in referrals made to us, this is attributed to the hard work from all agencies involved, especially the targeted work of Enthusiasm.” Derbyshire Constabulary

“The Government’s commitment to tackle drugs and change lives remains a top priority and it is because of the support and feedback from people like Enthusiasm that we can continue to make a difference” Vernon Coaker – MP

“It is very impressive and is exactly the sort of thing that every area needs.”  George Osborne – Shadow Chancellor

“Enthusiasm has over a period of time worked and continue to work diligently in playing an integral part in delivering and supporting the delivery of a ‘youth offer’ that has clearly addressed some of the key issues and priorities for young people across North Manchester” Patrick Barber –  Youth Inclusion Team, Manchester City Council

“Joe Russo as the Chief Executive of Enthusiasm works closely with the police and other partners in working with young people to improve their lives and the community where they live. He is committed to helping young people by diverting them from crime and anti-social behaviour and giving them positive life experiences. He shows drive and determination in his leadership of Enthusiasm to achieve this.” Steve Pont – Derbyshire Constabulary Chief Inspector, (Community and Partnerships) Derby Division

“Having worked with Joe as a local Councillor since 2005, I’ve seen first-hand how his passion and commitment to improving the lives of some of the most disadvantaged young people in Derby has a made positive difference. We’ve also worked in partnership over the years on community projects that have delivered solutions and outcomes to complex problems. For example, a double deck bus has been converted to a mobile community centre so that it can take outreach services to the heart of hard to reach and deprived communities where traditional engagement methods have not succeeded.”  Ranjit Banwait – Deputy Leader of Derby City Council

“[Enthusiasm] Have displayed good engagement skills, coming to a common ground and understanding with the young person. They look for a hook to engage hard to reach complex young people, giving them a purpose and supporting them into improving their education, learning and life skills.”  Tracey Jones – Team Leader, Family Intervention Project, Manchester City Council

“I just want to say thank you for the ‘Abbey Clean Up Week’ which has been arranged by your organisation. Both my neighbours and myself took full advantage of the skip provided on Arbor Close today (Wednesday 18th Feb). It has to be said that I wouldn’t have got half the rubbish to the skip without the help and hard work of all three lads Phil, Daz and Chris who were on hand to help fetch, carry and dump our heavy trash. Please pass on my gratitude to them. I think the project is a fantastic idea to help clean up our community and make it a safer, more environmentally friendly place.” Abbey Street Resident

I’m living proof that Enthusiasm works: I’m a lot more mature now and I know what I want, which is to help kids in the area with the same sort of problems and issues I had when I was younger. I’m in charge of two youth clubs now and I do a lot of youth work – organising litter picks, helping old people in the area, working on allotments.”  Volunteer Youth Worker

“We’re not a 9-5 organisation; we’ll take calls at all hours. The youth workers here are part of the community and so they can relate to the kids who live here. We will talk about love, care and respect with the kids because often they don’t get that in other areas of their lives. We’re not successful with everybody but if we can help a few kids change their lives to something more positive then that makes it all worthwhile.” Enthusiasm Youth Worker
