The Enthusiasm Board of Trustees has been carefully selected to support and be a critical friend to the management team and work with us to meet the organisations mission, visonand priorities.

The board have a wide and rich range of skills, expertise and knowledge and are all very well connected in the local and regional area.  These skills and knowledge include finance management and accountancy, education, inclusion, commercial enterprise and entrepreneurial skills, employment law, business development, sport, policing, criminal behavior reduction, radicalisation and safeguarding .

Gary Parkin –  Chair of the board of Trustees

Chair of Safeguarding and Health and Safety

Gary served with Derbyshire Constabulary for more than 30 years, retiring in 2015 as superintendent responsible for policing across Derby, South Derbyshire and Erewash. He was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished services to policing. On leaving the police he became a Home Office regional coordinator working on the Government’s counter terrorism Prevent strategy, developing plans with partners to de-radicalise individuals across the East Midlands. 

Gary also worked for Derbyshire County Cricket Club as chief operating officer and Derby County Football Club as head of security, safeguarding and licensing. He is currently employed at South Derbyshire District Council, has volunteered with Sporting Future for 15 years and is director of the Derbyshire Football Association with responsibility for safeguarding.

Claire Twells – Vice Chair of Board of Trustees

Vice Chair of PR & Marketing Sub-Committee

Claire is Derby born and bred and is a partner in Smith Partnership, where she is a debt recovery lawyer working on behalf of a wide range of clients including universities, schools and food companies. She is also head of business development for her firm and has excellent connections across the city through her professional and community work, which also includes setting up a business network for local female entrepreneurs and working with domestic abuse charities.

Dean Jackson 

Dean is the owner, founder and CEO of HUUB, a world-leading wetsuit, triathlon and cycling apparel design and manufacturer. Launched in 2011 as a sporting brand which utilised technology and research in the design of its clothing and accessories to deliver performance-enhancing products. The face of the brand, Dean is involved in every area of the business

David Nelson – Chair of Finance Sub Committee

David is a Senior Partner at the Midlands-based accountancy and Advisory business PKF Smith Cooper.

He spent much of his early career incorporate recovery, working withunderperforming, distressed and liquidated businesses. Today he specialises in providing board-room level advice and commercial solutions to high growth business clients on matters ranging from fundraising to developing business strategy and looking at acquisition targets.

Ryan Duckett – Vice Chair of Finance Sub Committee

Ryan has more than 20 years of experience working in professional sport and is currently CEO of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Previously, he was chairman of the Bradford Bulls Foundation which aimed to use the powers of sport to educate, motivate and inspire through six pillars of activity; sport, health, education, heritage, social inclusion and arts and culture.

Sarah Le-Good – Vice Chair of Safeguarding/Health & Safety Sub-Committee

Sarah started her career as a teacher and has worked in the further education sector for more than 25 years. Until recently, she was the director of inclusion at Derby College, which included leading the national SEND Centre for Excellence for Inclusive Curriculum Practice. She is now a director at Allies for Inclusion Ltd a training and support provider to a range of settings and organisations in the field of equality, diversity and inclusive practice. 

Carol Dixon – Chair of PR & Marketing Sub-Committee

Carol is the director of employer partnerships at Derby College. She is also a qualified mentor and coach and experienced at working with young people and applying for funding. Carol worked on the very successful Ending Gang and Youth Violence project with Enthusiasm.

James Johnson – Chair of HR & People Development Sub Committee

James is a solicitor and partner at Smith Partnership Solicitors, based in Derby. James specialises in HR and employment law, acting for companies of all sizes across the Midlands. He holds a wealth of legal, financial and management experience, having joined Smith Partnership in 1997 and been a Partner since 2010. James has been based in Derby throughout his career and therefore holds a strong affinity with the city.

After all the new Trustees were appointed there was a management restructure of staff ensuring all staff with significant responsibility had line management and support from the CEO April Allman.

Heather Dent  Youth and Community Service manager, Nicola Lewis  Central Services manager, Haydn Brady -Finance and Funding manager all report to CEO .
